ABOUT OUR FOUNDER AND DIRECTOR

Dr. Nzinga Metzger, M.A., Ph.D. is a historian,  anthropologist, and folkloric artist whose scholarly work addresses themes related to Africa and its diaspora.

Ms. Metzger is fluent in English, French, and Krio, and, in pursuit of her research and interests, travels frequently to West Africa, and the Caribbean.  Ms. Metzger lectures on various topics concerning Africana cultures and  is known to engage audiences with her vibrant personality and eloquent, yet accessible speaking style.  Nzinga is also a folkloric dancer who has studied and taught various dance forms from West Africa beginning in 1991, and Afro Cuba beginning in 1996. She has performed professionally with two companies, Barefoot Ballet in Atlanta, Georgia from 1994 to 1996 and Kulu Mele in Philadelphi, PA from 1997 to 2005.

The work of DuniaForé is a manifestation of a decades-long vision and labor of love. Dr. Metzger created this non profiy to tangible contributions to addressing challenges in communities in Africa, its diaspora, and the world, to provide others with the opportunity to participate in that work, and to create valuable person-to-person connections between members of Africana and global communities while doing so.

The initiatives DuniaForé’s 5 year plan represent areas of need and areas that are deeply important to Ms. Metzger-providing educational opportunities for people of all ages, maintaining and promoting cultural connections within the Africana Diaspora, and preserving Africana cultures. With creativity, support from our friends, perseverance, and her dynamic leadership, DuniaForé is destined to be a force for positive change wherever it engages the work of affirming people and building community.
