Lekan came to us in 2018 as a 15 year old who had been pulled out of school around the age of 11 because he went blind. For Lekan, Asalaye was his first classroom experience in at least 4 or 5 year. It was a challenge because we were unprepared for a special needs student but we made an accommodation of hiring an additional teacher specifically for him. Lekan made us all proud be excelling academically in his work with the support of his dedicated teacher. Lekan is also a songwriter and poet and he warmed my heart by composing a song for me at our end of the year festivities. We are proud to say that due to his hard work, we are now sponsoring him full time and paying his school fees at a school for the blind which will enable him to have the opportunity to have job or career when he grows older.
